How do I order a key if the original is lost or broken?
Most people think of their high-street key copiers or local locksmiths when they need a new key cut. But what if you lose the original and don’t have a key to copy from? What if you cannot get out to the high-street?
The replacement key number is stamped on both the front of the lock and the original key for most office furniture locks (desks, filing cabinets, cupboards and lockers). If you type this number into the search bar on our home page you should get the replacement key in the post next day.
Sometimes the same number is stamped on different types of locks and keys. What if I type in my key number and I get a choice of different types of key?
There are 400 different keys in the “92” series and you need key number 235 – so on the original key it will have 92235. Each key from that range is cut slightly differently so only the key with the matching number will fit the lock. In this example you will need the very common metal filing cabinet key 92235.
It is a good idea to send us photos of your lockface if you are still not sure. We will be happy to identify the right key for you. You can contact us by email email@example.com.
Quantity discounts for larger orders (applies to common keys)
When you have a long list of our most common replacement keys that you need then you don’t have to type each key number when ordering online. Just email your list of various replacement keys to firstname.lastname@example.org and confirm the total quantity of keys required. Quantity discounts are automatically calculated for you.

If a key doesn’t work what should I do?
There are a few reasons why a key might not work. Our keys are usually original manufacturer’s keys or cut by computer to the manufacturer’s own codes so they tend to be very accurately cut to the information you have provided.
You can contact us by email (email@example.com) or by phone on 0844 332 0246. Please tell us the invoice number that the order relates to and your contact details (your name and post code is usually enough for us to get to your original order quickly).
Please double-check that you ordered the correct type of key and that the number on the key is the same as the number on the lockface (including any letters that appear there).
Please try the key with a little WD40 (especially if your lock is old or has not been in use for a while).
Does the key go all the way in but not turn? (This means that the right type of key was sent but it may be the wrong key number or a worn or broken lock.) In this case we will normally advise you to return the key with your lock if possible so we can repair or replace it (we try to do this free of charge wherever possible).
Does the key go part of the way in? If you have tried with WD40 but the key only goes in part of the way then there may be a broken key snapped off inside, or some other obstruction (I have found paper clips, pen lids, glue and match-sticks in locks that have have been sent in). If you think a new lock is needed then do take a really good close up photo and send it to us so we can identify the best replacement for you.
It is a good idea to send us photos of your lockface, the entire lock if possible and the keys (including any keys there that you think might help us to identify the problem) before returning any locks to us.
Please contact us for assistance and we will endeavour to resolve any issues.
With very few exceptions, keys are cut individually to the customers’ requirements and as such are not stock items. We are therefore unable to accept the return for credit of keys that have been incorrectly ordered, or are surplus to requirements. This also applies where ambiguous information is given at the time of ordering. At our sole discretion we may exchange incorrectly ordered stock keys. For stock items, a handling charge of 20% will be levied on goods “not required” or “incorrectly ordered“ or due to duplication resulting from a “confirmation” order not being marked to that effect. In most cases the customer is bears the cost of returning goods and we will only accept the return of goods within 30 days of the delivery date.
With well over 30,000 customers in the UK, we process a huge volume of orders and cannot cross check every item we receive. Due to our fast turnaround, we prefer not to receive any confirmation orders. On the rare occasions that goods have not been received within seven days, customers should contact the sales office. Where confirmation orders are sent not suitably marked, duplicated orders must be paid for.
